Etiquette Police Perhaps? December 11, 2006

Filed under: Etiquette Police — Willow @ 1:58 pm

I’m really starting to believe we need an etiquette police out there. You would give people tickets and their photo and name perhaps up on a website. In lieu of that ever happening, I thought today I would bring you my ticket violater of the day. First for shopping, the best award goes to the US Post office – I know, I know, but they were fast, helpful, polite and friendly, and they were all smiling. Congratulations!!!! The worst award for today goes to the Public Library, the El Sobrante branch which was quite a suprise. The gentleman behind the counter was grumpy, unhelpful and seemed to be quite annoyed that not only had I dared to check out something from the shelves but had 2 items on hold as well.

On an individual level, the award goes to a young 20 something woman driving a blue minivan with Jackie O’ type sunglasses in the parking lot of the El Sobrante Post Office. She pulled into a spot just as the car to her left was beginning to pull out. When she realized that she could not open her door all the way without hitting said other car, she began screaming at the car at the top of her lungs like a wild banshee. This of course caused the car to stop and stare at her, as did many folks in the parking lot, like she was an escapee from a mental hospital. Shame on you – learn some manners and how to behave in public.

Also the above winner, should also win an award for clothing etiquette – if you are going to wear hip heighth jeans, remember your stomach and love handles aren’t suppose to roll over the top of those pants. A double whammy.

Who else has a sighting?

When did women stop sweating? December 11, 2006

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Willow @ 9:20 am

Ok, so I and a girlfriend of mine were both on the search for new sweatpants to actually exercise in. Perhaps that was the problem. We wanted typical sweatpants, no fancy writing, no fancy anything. Apparantely that’s a thing of the past. Who, really, who pays $20 for a pair of sweatpants? And thin ones at that? After many stores in many days, I discovered the endangered species at Kmart – but only in the plus size section. Real sweat pants for $6. Ok, so I’ll have to hem them a bit but that’s ok. Has society really dipped so low that today we accept that sweatpants are a fashion statement? That’s it ok to wear them other places than exercising or to bed? Really people, have some pride in your appearance, sweat pants are not the ok to wear everywhere, but wait, didn’t Ms. Spears where sweatsuit for something dealing with her wedding? Taste people taste – let’s try to get some. And for you stores – remember we’re a nation way, way out of shape – try actually carrying some clothes to get us back into shape too.

Whew What a Week! December 10, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — Willow @ 10:05 am

A friend of mine, Joy was talking about what a busy week it had been and I have to agree. Let’s see, so far this week I have read the book, A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole, listened to the book on cd by Gillian Roberts, Til the End of Tom and am halfway through the book on cd by Mary Janice Davidson, Undead and Unpopular. And I have 2 more awaiting me at the public library and one more here I haven’t started, plus about 50 from Kerre to read at least.

I made 9 or 10 baby hats for the Save the Children push for newborn hats to go overseas. I met my walking buddy monday through saturday this week – yea for me! Bottled 10 gallons of beer – that was 2 different types and made another 5 gallons that is happily fermenting away. I made up another batch of my Sacred Scent perfume, and finished a lot of holiday shopping, made a Costco run for the tribe, worked a cleaning job and an admin job this week, and gave my guest lecture that I generally give at the local college in the Comparative Religion class on Modern Paganism: Myths and Facts Revealed. And I still have today left – and yes I have ideas for all of it :-) Ok, that explains why I fell asleep in the bathtub the other night. How about you?

Needles to the ready December 7, 2006

At a show a few days ago I was introducd to the current project of Save the Children. They are asking for tiny newborn hats – only 9 to 11 inches in circumference to send to some countries where many of the children die from cold and other problems. Their birth weight is much lower than we have here in the US, thus the size of the hats. They can be crocheted or knitted and I’ve figured out what loom to do my work on and have already knocked out 2 with a third on the way. Hats have to be sent in by Jan 2. Here’s a perfect way to use up all those little leftover balls of yarn. Needles ho!

Oh What a Beautiful Morning! December 6, 2006

December Moon
I thought this was a great sight this morning. The air is crisp and clean, the day is new with a million different possibilities. What are you going to do with your day?

May I help you please? December 5, 2006

Filed under: Rants — Willow @ 6:05 pm

So I was out and about today doing some of those things that you just have to do during the month and of course since it’s December it was hectic. My question is, when did polite and knowledgeable customer service become an endangered animal? I won’t say extinct because I did have one fabulous service experience but for the rest of the rest of the day I wanted to bang my head against the walls.
Ok, dentist office first – because of a traffic accident this morning everyone arrived at their office 30-45 minutes late. They didn’t bother to call their morning appointments to let them know they were running behind schedule, nor did they tell us when we came in for our appointment. We only found out about it when we asked, after waiting for 20 minutes past the appointment time – umm hello?

I would also like to implore the owners of Costco, Sam’s club and other warehouse stores, how about Home Depot, Walmart, and Lowes – to put turn signals on their carts – geesh you would think you were trying to live in a circus just trying to navigate. Wait scratch that, we can’t get folks to use their turn signals on their cars, why would they use them on shopping carts?

And while we’re on the subject of driving – who in their right mind decides to drive a wide-load truck, straddles two lanes to do it and does it during rush hour traffic – someone smack that guy.

Of course I also met up today with someone driving a bulldozer, at top speed, on my little road – in the frigging middle of the road around a curve – did I mention it turns out it was a county worker – I learned that after slamming on my brakes to avoid above head on collision to continue on to meet the dumptruck with the county emblem on the side also driving down the middle of the road at high speed. Lovely.

Different Face December 5, 2006

Ok, yes I changed the background here. The other one, while totally cool and felt perfect, just made it way, way too hard to read anything on the sides. So here’s for a new one that you can read everything.

Argh! Mounting frustration December 5, 2006

Filed under: Rants — Willow @ 9:11 am

So why on earth has it been a month since I could post? I was so excited about the new blog and then here we are a month later. So frustration at me. And also with my dentist. Now i love my dentist, it’s the front office staff that I want to strangle. They called me yesterday to remind me of my appt today. Only I had made the appt for tomorrow, Wednesday because I had both Tuesday and Thursday scheduled already. This is just the latest of the duhs! When I go in I have to reverify my phone numbers – I spent over 2 months with them trying to get them to update my phone number – how hard is it exactly to do that?? They may still not have it completely done. My favorite part was when they informed me of my work number – now they don’t have a work number because a lot of the places that I pick up work, it’s not a set schedule and I don’t get the use of the phone so why would they have a work number for me?? – get this, I had never heard of the number. Some poor guy out there has been getting calls for my dentist appointments for like 2 years now – once again duh! Is it just me or are all of you out there having similar problems with folks doing a piss poor job?

My walking buddy is in the same boat – she loves her dentist, a different one than mine, but twice now, has had the front office staff book her for appointments and when she gets there the office is closed because the dentist is out of the country – how in the hell do you mess that one up???

Grrr – isn’t there some work ethic about half ass jobs, and if there isn’t then let’s make one!
